La Southern Conference (o SoCon) (español: Conferencia Meridional) es una conferencia de la División I de la NCAA. Fundada en 1921, está formada por 10 miembros que compiten en 20 deportes.
Se formó el 25 de febrero de 1921 y comenzó a operar en 1922 con catorce universidades que pertenecían a la Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Estas universidades fueron: Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Maryland, Misisipi State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech, y Washington & Lee. En 1922 se les unieron seis más: Florida, LSU, Misisipi, South Carolina, Tulane, y Vanderbilt; en 1923 se sumó Sewanee; en 1924, VMI; en 1928, Duke; en 1936, Wake Forest, George Washington, Richmond, William & Mary, El Citadel, Davidson y Furman; y en 1950, Virginia Occidental.
En 1933, trece universidades localizadas al sur y al oeste de los Apalaches (Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Sewanee, Tennessee, Tulane y Vanderbilt) se marcharon de la SoCon a la Southeastern Conference, y en 1953, otras siete (Clemson, Duke, Maryland, Carolina del Norte, NC State, South Carolina y Wake Forest) fueron a parar a la Atlantic Coast Conference.

Miembros Asociados
editar- La ASUN Conference restablecerá una liga de lacrosse masculino en la temporada 2022 (año académico 2021-22). En ese momento, el miembro de la ASUN Bellarmine y el miembro asociado de SoCon Air Force se irán a la nueva liga de lacrosse de la ASUN. El equipo de lacrosse masculino de Jacksonville permanecerá en la SoCon. Bellarmine seguirá siendo miembro de la SoCon en la lucha colegial.
